WRSC Participates at the 8th Annual Devolution Conference in Homabay
The Council participated in the 8th Annual Devolution Conference, held at Homabay National School from 12th to 15th August 2025, under the theme “For the People, For Prosperity: Devolution as a Catalyst for Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice.” The conference brought together leaders from the national and county governments, private sector players, financial institutions, farmers’ organizations, civil society, and development partners. It provided a platform to highlight innovations and policies that can accelerate inclusive growth and sustainable development across counties. During the event, WRSC showcased the WRS as a transformative tool for reducing post-harvest losses, enhancing structured commodity trade, unlocking affordable financing for farmers, and strengthening food security and market linkages.
WRSC actively participated in a side event hosted by the State Department for Trade, themed “Unlocking County Trade Potential by Strengthening Local Value Chains for Inclusive Growth.” The session brought together national and county leaders, development partners, and private sector stakeholders to explore opportunities in local value chains.
WRSC Ag. CEO, Lucy Komen, joined a high-level panel discussion where she emphasized the Council’s regulatory role in certifying warehouses and explained how WRS enhances farmers’ security, credibility, and access to credit. She noted that WRS is well aligned with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and can be a game-changer for structured commodity markets in counties like Homabay.
Throughout the conference, WRSC’s exhibition stand attracted farmers, investors, county leaders, and development partners eager to understand how WRS can transform agricultural trade. The Council used the platform to demonstrate WRS operations and certified warehouse procedures, engage stakeholders on investment opportunities in warehouse infrastructure, and highlight how WRS empowers farmers through aggregation, price stability, and access to finance.
The Homabay Devolution Conference reaffirmed the strong interest among counties, farmer groups, and investors in adopting WRS to strengthen agricultural value chains. Stakeholders recognized WRS as a practical solution for building sustainable, inclusive, and market-driven trade systems at the county level. WRSC is committed to leveraging this momentum to expand WRS adoption in Homabay County and across the region, working closely with county governments, farmer organizations, and private sector actors.
